The documentary evidence relating to the building is very slight, though there is reason to hope that further research might turn up new information. It is also regrettable that a complete record of the building fabric was not made during the course of a major refurbishment carried out in the mid 1980s. Then, historic structure was exposed and strengthened, and decorative details in some areas replaced in facsimile.
