LOWER CAYTHORPE RUDSTON PARISH NORTH HUMBERSIDE REPORT ON GEOPHYSICAL SURVEY 1989

Author(s): Andy Payne

A geophysical survey was undertaken on the site of a prehistoric enclosure, located on a south facing slope, 50 metres above the valley of the Gypsey Race, in the Yorkshire Wolds. The survey formed part of a programme of archaeological assessment of the landscape around the deserted Medieval settlement of Lower Caythorpe. The area is under cultivation and the remains of the enclosure are visible only as cropmarks due to levelling by ploughing. The survey provided further detail of the nature of the site, including some evidence of former settlement activity.
