The collection comprises a photograph album entitled 'Yeovil 1883' which was compiled following a visit of members of the Architectural Association ('AA') to South Somerset and East Dorset. There are 89 photographs in the album depicting mainly churches and houses in the area. There are also group photographs outside some of the buildings, presumably showing members of the AA. The photographs were taken by John Loftus Robinson.
The album has the bookplate of Thomas Garratt, architect & draughtsman who attended this 14th Annual AA excursion. The album includes his published sketches (extracted from 'The Builder') of churches visited as well as further published sketches (extracted from 'The Building News') by M B Adams & T G Jackson.
Also included is a handwritten 'Verses sung at final Dinner' by T[homas] G[arratt] 1884: this refers to the following architects or attendees: M B Adams, Appleton, Spider Brown, Butterill & Bilson, Cole, Clarkson, Deene, Drew, Ferguson, Fowler Junior, Garratt, Gibbon, Gotch, Johnson, Knight, McCombie, Mew, Mitchell, Mountford, Murray, Nottingham, Orpen, Pink, Robinson, Sedding, Sharland, Sugden, Sulman, Webster, Wellard - many of whom must be included in the group photographs. The album also includes copies of reports on the visits (which lasted a week) published in 'The Builder' and 'Building News'.
There are also 4 loose paper prints of churches showing Bradford Abbas church, Dorset and St Joseph's Chapel, Glastonbury, Somerset.

Archival History
Thomas Garratt was an architect and draughtsman (fl. 1867-1911). His addresses are listed at 53 Maryland Road, Shepherds Bush and 112 Percy Road, London. He was articled to Edmund Francis Law and Son, Northampton in 1867. He then worked in offices in London and Norwich. He was an associate of the Royal Institute of British Architects and resigned from the Institute in 1911. His work was exhibited at the Royal Academy three times in 1889 and 1892.
The photographs in the album were taken by John Loftus Robinson who styled himself 'Honorary Amateur Photographer to the Architectural Association'.
