Description

The collection comprises an album created by Alexander Clark Blain, probably between circa 1920 and circa 1960. The album contains postcards and photographic prints, primarily documenting Wesleyan Methodist Chapels and associated buildings, but also including landscape and tourist views, presumably taken or collected whilst Blain was on holiday in various locations, including Scotland, Wales, and the Lake District. Alongside these images are family groups and posed photographs showing students at Didsbury College and Richmond Missionary Platform, presumably where Blain studied. Alexander Clark Blain was born in Liverpool in 1895, and entered the ministry in 1920. He died on 27th November 1964 in Crosby Garrett, Cumbria.

Locations well represented in the album include: Didsbury, Richmond on Thames, Navenby, Wellingore, Bollington, Helmsley, and the Lake District. The album also includes a small number of images of foreign locations, including views of the Alps, and one image showing Trinity Methodist Church in Georgetown, Guyana.
