Description

The collection comprises a photograph album containing black and white photographic prints showing aerial photographs taken by Aerofilms Limited and views of their premises and processes. The album was probably compiled in the 1930s to show potential clients examples of the company's work and the services that they offered.

The 51 photographs mounted in the album show: unnamed power station in Yorkshire (oblique, 1); Saltcoats (oblique, 1); unidentified locations (vertical, 9; oblique 1); process of taking aerial photographs through to drawing office (vertical, 1; oblique 1; ground, 6); Upminster (vertical, 3); Brooklands motor racing circuit (vertical, 1); map produced from aerial photographs (map, 1); London mosaic (vertical 1); aerial map of Port of Goole (vertical, 1); aerial map of route of Piccadilly Line railway (vertical, 2); Bignor Estate (vertical, 1); Middlesex County Council aerial survey of Porter's Park, Shenley (vertical, 1); The Valence Estate, Westerham, Kent (vertical, 1), the River Ouse at Goole (vertical, 2); Wells Cathedral (oblique, 2); Waddesdon Manor (oblique, 1); shipbuilding at Sunderland ((oblique, 1); mill at Congleton (oblique, 1); Stratford (oblique, 1); landscape in S. In the back of the album are 11 loose aerial photographs of unknown provenance. It is likely that some or all were not taken by Aerofilms and were subsequently added to the album. They show: Winchester Cathedral (oblique, 1); Wells Cathedral (oblique, 1); Berkeley Square (vertical, 1); Eton College (oblique, 2); Henely-on-Thames (oblique, 1); Harlow (oblique, 1); Salisbury Cathedral (oblique, 1); Salisbury (oblique, 1); Harlaxton Manor (oblique, 1); and Admiralty Arch (oblique, 1).
