Description

The collection comprises 34 black and white photographic prints and postcards and 12 colour photographic prints of Apethorpe Palace. There are: five postcards showing the Palace and one showing The Mill, Woodnewton dating from between about 1920 and 1960; four prints showing views around Apethorpe village taken sometime between 1905 and 1939; fifteen prints showing exterior views and eight showing interior views of the Palace taken sometime between 1905 and 1939 and twelve colour prints taken in 1970-1971 showing the construction of the swimming pool and gym for the school that was formerly based at the Palace. The colour prints were taken by John Hewitt (1929-2021), who was a woodworking instructor at the school at the time. Three of the black and white photographs were taken by commercial photographer, David Knights-Whittome (1876-1943). The identity of the postcard publisher the identities of the photographers of all other photographs in the collection are not known.

Archival History

The collection was acquired by the Historic England Archive in 2022.
