The collection contains four black and white glass negatives and one print of Apsley House and some of the historic artefacts within it. They appear to have been given to Apsley House via Miss Abraham and the print is annotated 'copyright by Mary Spencer Walden'. The images were all taken by a professional photographer who annotates all negatives and prints with a 'W' prefix numbering. Two images are of important items owned by Wellington or Napoleon (uniform, harness and swords), two show engravings or paintings, and one is a view of the exterior of Apsley House.
The titles of the 5 items taken from the original packaging along with original numbers and format is given below: 1. Miniature of Mary Queen of Scots in possession of Duke of Wellington (Apsley House), given by Miss Abraham . Original numbers: 21372 and 824. Negative.
2. [Portrait of] 1st Duchess of Wellington, given by Miss Abraham. Original numbers: 21363 and 823. Negative.
3. Exterior of Apsley House in 1st Duke's time. Original numbers: 21374 and 829. Negative.
4. Wellington Museum, Apsley House: sword and baton of 1st Duke, and sword of Napoleon surrendered to Duke after Waterloo, given by Miss Abraham Original numbers 21362 and 821. Negative.
5. Wellington Museum, Apsley House: Cloak, harness etc. used by Wellington at Waterloo, copyright Mrs. Mary Spencer Walden, given by Miss Abraham. Original number W820. Print.
The collection was given to the NMR in 2009. It was originally given to Apsley House by Miss Abraham of whom nothing has been discovered.
