Description

A collection comprising twenty early colour slides showing views of Hadrian's Wall, taken by Sydney Bridger in 1938. The collection is accompanied by a handwritten list, which indicates that there were originally at least eighty-three slides within the set, but the whereabouts of the other images is not known. It is assumed from the list that Bridger had some knowledge of archaeology, but little more is known about him or his work.

The slides within the collection include: a set of six images showing a pier of the Roman bridge on the bank of the North Tyne opposite Chester; seven images showing features of the bathhouse and latrine at Cilurnum Fort at Chesters near Walwick; two views of the Wall from Cuddy's Crags; three views from Hotbank Crags; and one view of Milecastle 39 (Castle Nick) near Steel Rigg.
