Description

A collection of thirty-three postcards, compiled by Brendan O'Neill, ranging in date from circa 1900 to circa 1975. The postcards were created by a variety of postcard producers, including James Valentine Ltd, Wade's, John Hinde Studios, Frith's Series, Shoesmith and Everidge Ltd of Hastings, Jarrold and Sons Ltd, Judges Limited, Photo Pecision Ltd, E T W Dennis and Sons Ltd, Raphael Tuck and Sons, F Frith and Co Ltd, The Doncaster Roto Photo Co Ltd, The Photochrom Co Ltd, and Saville Bros of South Shields. There is a mixture of colour and black and white images, with some photographic and some half tone.

Coverage is predominantly of seaside and coastal views, and includes: Views of the Pleasure Gardens at Whitley Bay, Swanage Bay, Pier and Esplanade, the Sandbanks to Studland Car Ferry, the Italian Garden at Compton Acres, Studland Bay, Tilly Whim Caves at Swanage, Leith Hill at Dorking, various views of Driffield, the Old Town Hall at Pevensey, various views of Christchurch, Falmouth Harbour, Robin Hoods Bay, Customs House Quay at Falmouth, Scarborough Spa, Bridge and South Bay, various views from around Kent, rowing on the Thames at Oxford, Coldharbour Village at Dorking, St Paul's Church Dorking, South Beach at Southwold, Torbay Road and Waldon Hill at Torquay, the Princess Gardens at Torquay, the General Post Office in Aberdeen, Crayford High Street, Crayford Hill, the pier and lighthouse at South Shields, Long Sands at South Shields, and Keighley.
