The collection contains 80 files and 98 measured drawings relating to the recording and preservation of historic bellframes in England by Chris Pickford and others between 1988 and 2009.
The collection relates in part to 'Historic bellframes: a rescue recording project', funded by the Society of Antiquaries of London and set up in 1992. The files contain working drawings, notes, correspondence, source material, plans and master-copy reports relating to individual church bellframes. Also in the collection are lists of bellframes lost or restored, a copy of 'Bellframes: A practical guide to inspection and recording' (1993) by Chris Pickford, and details of the 'Historic bellframes' project.

The collection was given to the NMR in 2009.
Christopher John Pickford is an archivist. He worked in the archives of Leicestershire, Worcestershire and Herefordshire before becoming County Archivist at Bedfordshire in 1986. He left in 1998 to become Director of the Church of England Records Centre, and later became a freelance archival consultant to organisations including the Carpet Museum Trust in Kidderminster. He has published several books on Bedfordhsire history, bellframes and archival practice.
