Description

The collection contains 422 postcards, both photographic and illustrative, depicting town and village scenes, seaside views, landscapes, churches, harbours and quaysides, country houses, cottages, and ruins. The emphasis is on picturesque locations and scenes as befits holiday postcards. A number of the postcards depict beaches, seafronts, parades and piers with holiday makers. Locations well represented include Tintagel, Bideford, Ilfracombe, Bournemouth, High Roding and Kirby Hall. The postcards range in date from c1900 to 1914. A significant proportion of them were sent to Mrs A Blackmore of Fulham Road, London.

Received Via : Mrs L J Cooper, 01/09/1999 Provenance : Donated by Mrs L J CooperAt present there is no information regarding the compilation of this collection. Many of the cards were posted to a Mrs Blackmore, who Mrs Cooper is presumably connected with.
