A collection of 177 small format black and white photographs, taken by Anthony Disney circa 1915-1930. Disney (28 November 1903 - 17 August 1979) was interested in church fonts from a young age and travelled by bicycle, train and motorcycle in search of interesting examples, which he photographed. He subsequently spent thirty years in the Sudan.
The photographs cover many counties in England, with a particular focus on Devon and Norfolk, and also include some examples of fonts in Wales and abroad. The majority are arranged in a photograph album, with the remainder loose prints that have been stored in envelopes by county. Alongside the photographs are six halftone printed images, taken from publications.
There is a typed handlist of the locations covered in the collection file.
The collection was acquired by the Historic England Archive in 2004.
