The collection consists of forty four pen and ink drawings of buildings and street scenes in London by John P. Emslie during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The scenes are primarily located in the City and Westminster and depict, amongst others, hotels, public houses, and churches.
They were commissioned for publication in the following journals: - ‘Illustrated Topographical Record of London: Changes and Demolitions, 1880-1887’, London Topographical Society, 1st series, 1898 - ‘Illustrated Topographical Record of London: Changes and Demolitions, 1886-1887’, London Topographical Society, 2nd series, 1899 - ‘Illustrated Topographical Record of London: Changes and Demolitions, 1888-1890’, London Topographical Society, 3rd series, 1900 - ‘Annual Record of the London Topographical Society’, Vol 1, 1900 - ‘London Topographical Society Record’, Vol 2, 1903
Collection reconstituted from the London NMR Red Box collection by Ian Leith, 2003. Many of the drawings have been allocated copy negative numbers. An additional number of drawings were added to this collection in 2013, having come from the NMR06 Measured Drawing collection.
