The collection contains 533 small format black and white negatives, taken by Arthur Basil Rowland Fairclough in the 1950s and 1960s. The majority of these have been accessioned into the main Archive negative run. The images are geographically quite diverse, covering most of the country, and subject matter includes churches, domestic buildings, shops, railway stations, bridges, and mills.
Fairclough's main area of interest was the portraiture and costume of the seventeenth century, and during his life he collected a huge amount of material relating to this, which was deposited at the University of Leicester Special Collections.
Provenance : Photographer contributing material to the NBR during the 1950s and 1960s. Most material in RCHME Negatives / Open Access files, with this material being residual.
