The collection comprises 122 35mm slides, created in the 1970s-1980s, which are copies of original lantern slides dating from c1890-1935. The collection is likely to have its roots with the Royal National Mission to Deep Sea Fishermen, now known as the Fishermen's Mission, although no details are known about its provenance. The images show deep sea fishing and related activities with the emphasis on fishing boats (docked and at sea), harbour and quayside scenes, group portraits of trawlermen, and female harbour employees. The collection includes a wide variety of subjects such as frozen trawlers, medical mission vessels, rest homes and hospitals and mission staff, a chapel, a club, wrecks and several pieces of religious text and poems. Most are at unidentified locations. Identified places include Padstow in Cornwall, Tower Bridge in London, seen with trawlers passing underneath, Great Yarmouth in Norfolk, and Whitby in North Yorkshire. Some photographs may show Labrador, Newfoundland and Ireland.
