A large collection of material compiled by Lord Eric George Molyneux Fletcher, containing photographs, notes, correspondence and cuttings relating to his lifelong interest in Anglo-Saxon architecture and archaeology.
The collection includes the following components:
Box One - Research files A-L, including correspondence, notes, cuttings, pamplets etc relating to Early Medieval sites, predominantly ecclesiastical, compiled by Lord Fletcher.
Box Two - Research files M-Y, including correspondence, notes, cuttings, pamphlets etc as above. Also includes photographic prints, some of which are original, and a set of small format colour prints, documenting Fletcher's research.
Box Three - Research notes (mostly handwritten) on early medieval churches, nationwide. Includes cuttings, pamphlets and correspondence. This box also contains papers, notes, drawings, correspondence and photographic prints relating to excavations by Colonel Meates and Lord Fletcher at Stone by Faversham.
Box Four - Approximately 750 photographic prints, mostly small format, including a large proportion of photographic postcards. The focus is on early medieval ecclesiastical architecture, including specific features such as fonts. There are also 17 negatives and 18 lantern slides, mainly photographic copies of measured drawings of churches, and a set of correspondence, church guides and pamphlets. Included within this box is a small folio containing 27 engravings of views and buildings in Islington.
