The collection contains 55 black and white photographs showing a variety of buildings in Devon and Somerset taken by Gerald Sanville between 1908 and 1938. The buildings include Exeter Cathedral and churches with particularly ornate wood carvings on screens, pews and pulpits. There are two photographs of unidentified cottages, one is thought to be in Selworthy, Somerset, and a view of a memorial cross.

Gerald Sanville (1881-c.1965) was an architect articled to Messers Salmons and Steinthal in 1898. He became an associate of RIBA in 1905 and was a partner in the firm of Oakley and Sanville Architects of King Street, Manchester.
The collection was acquired by the NMR before 2008.
