Description

A collection of nineteenth and twentieth century photographs, postcards and art prints showing Houstesteads, Chesters, Vindolanda and Iffley church in Oxfordshire.

Three of the postcards are from the same manufacturer whilst one has had the manufacturer's name removed, making it difficult to assign a date. One postcard had been used and all had the site recorded on the reverse.

The two printed pictures (a lithograph and set of two sketches) come from Collectanea Antiqua and have the volume and page number written on them in pencil. A bibliographic reference is given for both.

The photographs appear to be two pages removed from an album both have prints mounted on both sides of a piece of card and a caption identifying the site written in pen below. OP03259 and OP03260 appear to have only been included as they are on the reverse of OP03258 which shows Chesters Bridge Abutment. They had been crossed through in light pencil but are catalogued in full here as they are of interest in their own right. One is a print from a Henry Taunt negative held by the NMR and one is by a different, unidentified, photographer.
