Description

The collection comprises 674 6cm x 9cm black and white photographic negatives that form a survey of the churches of St Michael and St Paul, Honiton in 1942. The photographs were taken in May 1942 as part of the Office of Works Survey to provide a record of the churches at a time of bombing of historic buildings during the sustained in the Exeter Blitz of April-May 1942. The survey was coordinated by F.E. Norris and many of the photographs were taken by him. Most of the other individually identified photographers are believed to have been children aged 12-14 years evacuated to Honiton and Branscombe. They are recorded as: Eric Clements, Stanley Pronger, Peter Beer, Harry Smith, Miss Muriel Beckett, Geoffrey T. Spencer, Tom Lake, Roy Caney, Robert Smith, Kenneth Snell, Harry Wright and John War. Archival History

The collection was acquired by the Historic England Archive in 2024.
