- Reference:
- HON02
- Type:
- Collection containing Photographic and Graphic material
The collection consists of a photograph album compiled by J M Rampton, containing twenty-eight photographic prints showing the exterior and interior of Honingham Hall. Alongside the prints are typed captions, presumably created by Rampton, outlining reasons for the building not to be preserved. The collection also contains four smaller format loose prints, and six measured drawings relating to Honingham Hall.
Honingham Hall was originally built in 1605. During the Second World War it was used as a Bernardo's Home for children; this subsequently closed in 1966. The Hall was then subject to a Building Preservation Order, which was appealed by Mr Rampton. The Hall was later demolished, although the stables and coach house remain.
At the time the photographs were taken, the building was in a poor condition, suffering from lack of upkeep and damp. The rooms are shown empty of furniture.
The collection was acquired by the Historic England Archive before 2016.
