Description

The collection comprises a leather-bound album of 25 black and white photographs of Hale Park country house, estate and church and Hale village in Hampshire.

The photographs, which have printed captions, are about 1890 but it is clear that some are copies of earlier photographs. Some of the photographs have pencil annotations with notes on planting and estate workers names etc. The photographs were probably taken by a professional photographer and many are part of a numbered sequence.

This house, church and estate are linked with the important baroque architect Thomas Archer (d.1743).

Archival History

The album has the bookplate of Lieutenant Colonel Gerald Lionel Joseph Goff (1855-1899). The Goff family owned Hale Park until 1920. There is no other provenance.

The collection was acquired by the NMR in 2010.
