Description

The collection contains an album of 145 photographs titled "The Island Forts of the Humber 1915-1918 Constructed for HM War Department Under the Supervision of Major-General Sir G K Scott-Moncrieff KCB, KC, MG Director of Fortifications and Works By Messrs C J Wills & Sons Ltd Public Works Contractors 28 Victoria Street, Westminster".

The album shows the construction of Bull Sand Fort (120 views) and Haile Sand Fort (23 views) between 1915-1919 in varying formats. The title page contains watercolour vignettes of the two forts; two further title pages have not been catalogued. A loose print depicts a barge at sea.

Archival History

The collection was transferred to the NMR archive in 2008.

There is other C.J. Wills material in the NMR, relating to railway construction. There are two albums with the reference AL0489 and AL0490.
