A collection including aerial and excavation photography relating to the south west of England.
Collection acquired as a bequest on July 9th, 2001. Hancock was a forensic photographer in Bristol, who developed his interest in archaeology by funding his own flying.
The reconnaissance covers Avon, Somerset, Gloucestershire, Hampshire, North Wilts. He flew from Weston-super-Mare airfield, at times with John White of West Air Photography as pilot, who himself holds a renowned collection of aerial photography.
The Hancock Collection covers not just archaeological features, but also the changing topography of the South West, including the construction of the M5 in the Bristol/Avonmouth area.
