Photographs of archaeological sites such as Stanton Drew, Stoney Littleton, Oakham Castle and Rochester collected by archaeologist John Gilbert Hurst. Hurst worked for the Ministry of Works, Department of the Environment and English Heritage retiring in 1987. He was assistant chief inspector of ancient monuments and was best known for his work on the excavation at Wharram Percy. Many of the prints are mounted on card.
