Description

The collection comprises a photographically illustrated book relating to Furness Abbey, Cumbria and its surrounding area written by novelist James Payn (1830-1898) in 1865. The volume contains 13 monochrome photographic prints taken by an unknown photographer and one further photograph taken by James Valentine.

Archival History

The collection was acquired by The English Heritage Archive in 2014.
