The collection contains 23830 photographic prints and 67340 negatives of buildings in London and South East England. The collection's strength is in exterior views of secular architecture, particularly listed structures. The collection is methodically organised with identification lists and annotations attached to the items.

Kenneth [Ken] William Edwin Gravett MSc FIEE FSA (1930-1999) was a photographer, an electrical engineer and an antiquary. He was in his lifetime: President of the Kent Archaeological Society, Chairman of the Surrey Local History Council, Head of Higher and Further Education of the Inner London Education Authority, Honorary Vice-President of the Surrey Archaeological Society, President of the Kent Archaeological Society and chairman of its Historic Buildings Committee, and a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries for more than 30 years.
The collection was given to the NMR in three deposits: in 1994 by Gravett himself, and in 2006 and 2008 by his executor.
Prints taken from negatives in this collection are also arranged topographically in the NMR's public access Red Box Collection.
