Description

The collection represents the work of the Larkin Brothers, commercial photographers of 201, High Holborn, London WC1. The company was run by Norman Durbridge Larkin (1893-1985) & Ronald Ferres Larkin (1896-1979). There are approximately 20,000 negatives and 2000 prints mostly taken between the 1920s and the 1960s, with a few earlier images dating from the Edwardian period and a mounted photographic copy of a Victorian image of children. Geographical coverage is mostly of London Boroughs but also includes Avon, Berkshire, Dorset, East Sussex, Essex, Kent, Northants, Surrey, West Sussex and Scotland. Subjects photographed by the Larkin Brothers include wartime London and bomb damage; people at work and leisure; construction and recently built structures; factories, shops and offices; portraits and group portraits; machinery; exhibitions, displays and brand advertising.

Provenance : Professional architectural photographers of 201, High Holborn, LO operating between c1930s-1980.
