Description

The collection contains 181 black and white photographs taken by J.F. Lumbers of Leicester between about 1925 and about 1960.

The prints show various historic houses, towns and monuments in England and Wales. Many of the images relate to places in Derbyshire and Lincolnshire but the coverage is national. All but one image is an exterior view.

Archival History

The collection was given to the NMR in 1963 by Leicestershire Museums, Art Galleries and Records Service (Their reference: ACC126, 1962).

Lumbers was a professional photographer and one-time Honorary Secretary of the Leicester and Leicestershire Photographic Society and Survey Group. His stamp that appears on many of the prints in this collection gives his address as 157 Upperton Road, Leicester.
