Vertical and oblique aerial photography flown by the RAF and USAAF between 1939 and 1945.

The M series collection derives its name from 'M' Section, RAF Medmenham. The section was responsible for home photography within the Allied Central Interpretation Unit. Photographic sorties apparently being carried out to assess the defence of Britain and to train both aircrews and interpretation staff.

The photography is in 5x5, 8x7, 9x9 and 18x9 black and white formats. Coverage of England at scales between 1:1000 and 1:80000. Cover of Scotland is held by NCAP/RCAHMS and Wales by the Welsh Government.
