The collection contains nine large format black and white photographs of terrace housing and shops in Stepney, London Borough of Tower Hamlets. The photographs were taken between 1872 and 1879 and most of them are marked with a 'blind stamp' of 'Mitchell, Photographic Chemist, Croydon'.
Only some of the sites are identified. Those that have annotations suggest that they were locations in the parish of St George's in the East and other locations in the former Metropolitan London Borough of Stepney. Streets shown include Raven Row, East Mount Street and Morris Street.
The NMR acquired the collection before 2010.
