Description

The collection comprises an album of 36 black and white photographic prints showing Shadwell Court, Shadwell Park and Shadwell estate village, Norfolk. The photographs were taken by Millar and Harris in 1926. The photographs show four interiors of Shadwell Court, a Grade 1 listed country house in Norfolk, and 32 images showing the exterior of the house and views of the gardens, associated estate buildings forming the hamlet of Shadwell, and St Andrew's Church and St John the Evangelist's Church. The surviving buildings shown in the album are in the civil parish of Brettenham.

The photographs were taken only two years after the establishment of Millar and Harris and constitute therefore one of the earliest commissions of a company associated with architectural photography and that is well represented in the Historic England Archive. It is assumed that the photographs were taken for the Musker Family, owners of Shadwell Court at the time.

Archival History

The collection was acquired by the Historic England Archive in 2015.
