Description

The collection comprises 10 colour 35mm photographic slides taken from the air by John Dowden (1924-2002), a civil servant and a private pilot, between 1980 and 1993. The images show: locations in County Durham, Northumberland and Tyne and Wear: Consett Steel Works, Acklington, Ponteland, Newcastle Upon Tyne, Seaton Delaval Hall, Newburn and Lemington, Scotswood, Stella power stations, Swan Hunter shipyard at Wallsend, and South Shields. The photographs were taken at a time of industrial change in the North-East of England.

Archival History

The collection was acquired by the Historic England Archive in 2023.
