Description

A set of copy negatives of images used to illustrate "An exhibition catalogue of Buck's perspective views of near one hundred cities and chief towns in England & Wales by Messrs Samuel and Nathaniel Buck who were employed upwards of thirty two years in the undertaking". The catalogue accompanied an exhibition of engravings organised by the antiquarian booksellers Henry Sotheran Limited in 1985. The engravings themselves date from the early to mid 18th century and were produced by the Buck brothers who undertook an exhaustive tour of England and Wales recording castles, religious foundations and other antiquities (See 'Buck's Antiquities or Venerable Remains of above four hundred Castles, Monasteries, Palaces etc in England and Wales' (5 Volumes, 1726-52)). At the same time they produced a series of townscapes under the title of 'Cities, Sea-ports, and Capital Towns'.
