Description

The collection comprises glass plate negatives and one film negative taken to illustrate works by John Swarbrick. Several of the images appear in Swarbrick's 1915 publication, 'Robert Adam and his Brothers', published by Batsford. These images were taken by one of the following photographers: Thomas Lewis of Birmingham, W E Gray of Bayswater, Edwin Dockree, or Horace Dan. The images in the collection document architectural interiors by the Adam brothers, and include details of plasterwork and fireplaces. The images that have been identified show: the chimney piece from the drawing room at 1 Portman Square, London; the ground floor sitting room at 20 Portman Square, London; the ceiling in the dining room at Harewood House, London; and a photograph of an account by Antonio Zucchi for paintings in the library at Kenwood House, London, dating from 1769.
