Description

The collection comprises twelve colour photographic prints taken by professional photographer Bob Tanner, showing the interior decor of the showroom of John Dewar and Sons Limited, whisky distillers, at Dewar House on Haymarket in Westminster. The photographs include images of office space, furniture, and decorative features, as well as examples of promotional displays.

John Dewar and Sons Limited was founded in 1846 by John Dewar in Perth, Scotland. The company grew to include John's two sons, John and Tommy, who took over the business in the 1880s. In 1898 the Aberfeldy Distillery was built. In 1908 the company opened business premises on Haymarket in London, at Dewar House. In 1910 they commissioned Bedford Lemere and Company, architectural photographers, to record the interior of the Haymarket offices and showroom; these images are held by the Archive (BL20886 - BL20889) and form a good comparison with the later prints in this collection.
