Description

The collection contains monochrome photographs of historic buildings mainly in East Anglia compiled by architect Theodore Ellis Legg (1888-1974) between 1949 and 1952. Many of the photographs were taken by Legg in the course of his work for the first survey of Buildings of Architectural and Historic Interest completed in accordance with the Town and Country Planning Act 1947. The collection includes a group photograph of the team responsible for compiling the list with Legg and team leader Walter Godfrey (W H Godfrey) among it.

There are two albums containing 110 photographic prints and additionally: 83 loose prints; 107 prints mounted on card; 15 prints of unidentified locations; 800 prints in wallets (estimate); 1600 prints in envelopes (estimate); and 1000 negatives (estimate). There are also a few album pages which have had images taken off them but contain captions. Many of the prints and all of the negatives are small format (2”x2.5”), and the collection contains photographs taken by people other than Legg.
