Description

The collection comprises 153 black and white photographic prints depicting exterior views of lodges and gatehouses belonging to country houses and estates, predominantly in England but with a small number in Wales.

The photographs were taken by Timothy Mowl for use in his 1984 publication, 'Trumpet at a Distant Gate: The Lodge as Prelude to the Country House', which he co-wrote with Brian Earnshaw. The prints were donated to the Historic England Archive by Timothy Mowl.
