The collection comprises photographic glass negatives and other documentation taken by or for University College London for the the purpose of producing photogrammetric surveys of historic buildings
Buildings, structures and artefacts represented photographically are: Silbury Hill (1968), Stonehenge: Stone 53 (1967), Tower of London: White Tower (1969), Fountains Abbey: Huby's Tower (1969), Canterbury Cathedral: wall painting of St. Paul (1982); York: Coppergate ancient timbers (1984); National Maritime Museum: Brigg Boat (1974); Butser Hill: Ancient farm (1971); Beverley Minster: vaulting and tracery (1968); Beverley parish church: tracery (1968); Castle Howard: reconstruction of dome (1961); Bristol High Cross (1979); Westminster Abbey: vaulting and tracery (1968); and statue of King John at the Victoria and Albert Museum (1986). Cheviot Hills archaeological mapping (1983) is also present but has no associated photography.
The work in the collection was commissioned by a variety of organisations including: Royal Commission on Historical Monuments of England, Department of the Environment, [National Trust, owners of Castle Howard, Courtauld Institute, Dean & Chapter of Canterbury Cathedral, York Archaeological Trust, National Maritime Museum and Ross Instruments Ltd.

The collection was donated to the NMR in 2006 by Ernie Wickens and Keith Atkinson (formerly staff at UCL's Department of Photogrammetry and Surveying; later renamed the Department of Geomatic Engineering) who were the creators of some of the files.
