- Collection Containing Photographic Material
The collection contains 177 black and white glass plate negatives showing furniture and interior decor that may have been created by furniture manufacturers Maple, Waring and Gillow. The negatives, which measure 12 inches by 10 inches in size, are undated but were probably produced between 1900-1925.
The negatives show: decorative interiors such as dining rooms, bedrooms, drawing rooms and restaurants; artists drawings of interiors and furniture; studio shots of furniture and tapestries; fashion shop and furniture workshop interiors; and exteriors of a cottage, ocean liner Omrah, country houses, Waring's goods yard, and a clocking in and out hut. Negatives 12 and 64 are of Lulworth Castle, Dorset. None of the other negatives have been positively identified but negatives 141 and 175 are probably of Peter Robinson department store; one of the artists drawings is recorded as the exterior of a 'Waring building'; and several of the others are labelled 'Imperial Hotel Mentone' (presumably Menton, France).
A handlist is available.
The collection was acquired by the NMR in 2001.
