Description

The ration book is dated 1948 - 1949. The image is part of a series of photos prepared for a campaign by the National Council of Social Service. The picture also appears as a double-page spread in Country Life magazine for October 1952, with the caption 'This demi-paradise, this England: this book that none of us can make any sense of'.
