Description

The church was built in the 15th century, was restored between 1855 and 1856, and the chancel was rebuilt by G. F. Bodley in 1901. The church has a west tower, aisled nave, south porch and chancel. The memorial to John Smeaton (b. 8/06/1724 d. 28/10/1792) ids on the north wall of the chancel, and consits of a tablet with inscription and a relief carving of a lighthouse. Smeaton was a civil engineer and built the third Eddystone Lighthouse between 1956 and 1759, which was operational for 118 years.
