Description

Building of Her Majesty's Naval Base, Devonport (HMNB Devonport) began with construction of what is now known as the South Yard in 1690. Plymouth was heavily bombed during the Second World War, with the Royal Dockyards the main target. The stores were gutted during the Plymouth Blitz.
