The house was built in the early 15th century by William Nettleton of Quarmby, whose family moved to the house in c1412. The hall was later added in 1530 by Robert Nettleton. The hall and east wing are the only sections of the hall that survive, and form a T-shaped plan, joined by a small penthouse. The first floor hall has an elaborate 17th cnetury plaster ceiling with panels of squares, lozenges and triangles, with flowers, fleur-de-lys and fruits. The cornice has a panelled frieze with reliefs of unicorns and lions, female figures and trees.
