The mayoral residence was built for the Doncaster Corporation by James Paine between 1746 and 1748 and altered between 1801 and 1806 by William Lindley. The fireplace has a stone surround with a pediment, and the rear of the firebox has a shaped plaque with a relief scene of a battle.
