Description

The Wool Exchange was completed in 1867, to an 1864 competition-winning design by Lockwood and Mawson. The main hall is surrounded by granite columns. A staircase on the south-west wall leads to a mezzanine on the south-east side of the hall. The hall has a hammerbeam roof with wrought ironwork decoration. The building was used as a wool exchange until the 1970s, and was converted into shopping units in the late 20th century.
