The photographer’s notes state: ‘No. 2 New Street, N. east side at N. west end, near Wellington Road. The site of the former Friends' Pooorhouse, built 1698, and demolished about 1928, is just to the left of the picture.'
Noted in red: 'The house on right was probabl ydestroyed in the 1940-1941 air raids, No. 2 was demolished probably 2 or 3 years before 1953.'
