Description

The cathedral has a cruciform shape with smaller east transepts, an attached cloister, chapter house and libraries. It was established between c1072 and 1092 by Bishop Remigius, and restored following a fire 1123-1148 for Bishop Alexander. Remodelling and restorations took place until 1921. The pulpit in the choir has a traceried canopy and carvings in an arcade around the pulpit bowl, and was erected between 1863 and 1864 by Sir Gilbert Scott.
