The Red Lion Hotel was built as a town house in 17th century, only becoming a hotel in the second part of the 18th century. In 1967 it was badly damaged when a lorry crashed into the facade. It was decided that rebuilding would be too expensive so the Red Lion was demolished and replaced with a modern structure.
