Description

In the Margaret Tomlinson negative register the Tiverton Union Workhouse is referred to as the 'Public Assistance Institution. After about 1930, workhouses became known as Public Assistance Institutions until their closure with the launch of the NHS and the National Assistance Act of 1948. It subsequently became Belmont Hospital but was later converted to residential use in 2012-15 .
