In the foreground are numbers 36-38, a pair of timber framed houses built in the Vernacular Revival style in 1857. Adjacent are the buildings of 40-44 Eastgate Street which were replaced in the early 20th century by a mock Tudor group. Furthest from the camera is the Grosvenor Hotel dating from the 1860s.
